Boyton Parish lies on the border of Devon and Cornwall approximately 5.5 miles to the north of Launceston. Essentially a farming community, the parish covers an area of approximately 7 square miles (4,200 acres) and at its highest is about 400 feet above sea level. In 1801 the population of the parish was 319 and interestingly enough, the number of people on the 2011 census was 425, a very small change in population over 200 years!
Boyton continues to change and develop but it remains a friendly and welcoming community. The Thursday coffee mornings are an opportunity for neighbours to meet and chat. The two churches hold regular services and there is a thriving primary school which welcomes pupils from inside and outside the parish.

Over the last couple of years, Boyton Parish Council has purchased and installed two speed indicator signs for the village. It was hoped that the signs would encourage motorists to keep to the 30mph speed limit, however some of the data collected has been alarming.While the majority of people travelling through Boyton are sticking to the limit, there are a few that are flouting the law and are putting the safety of residents at risk. During September, a few travelled over 40mph, but one, just after 10pm on September 18 travelled through the village at speed, passing the sign at 74mph. We realise children would not be out playing at this time of day, but there are still people walking their dogs, and this speed is unacceptable. This is not the first time that such speeds have been noted over previous months. The information has been passed to Cornwall Council and the police.
Boyton Parish Council urges everyone to be mindful of their speed, and to keep the parish safe for residents and visitors alike.
